Artist Statement:

I am a Clay Geek… a simple and uncomplicated clay artist.    Sometimes the clay controls me and not the other way around. Like a person, the more you fight it the less happy it is.   Many of the pieces that I have loved the most had no prior creative thought.  The clay actually spoke for itself as if it needed a voice and had a story to tell.  Living on the Central Coast offers a plethora of coastal inspiration.

Looking at a wave and then modeling the clay to express movement of water excites me and I can almost smell the ocean air.   Capturing the foam on the crest of a wave makes it come alive.   Water foul like the Heron moves me to capture its statuesque beauty and grace.   A whale’s tail coming out of the water and slapping the surface is captivating like no other.

Succulents symbolizing enduring and timeless beauty deserve to be shown off in unique vessels.   From a simple cup to a an exaggerated sculpture,  my ultimate desire is to “stir” an emotional response for the viewer and to let the clay tell its story thru my hands.

Although the path that I journey on can take many detours, the fundamental theme of my art encompasses:

Functionally Simple

Senses, Spiritual and Emotion

Movement and Nature

Whimsy and Eclectic
